slip

Beside the slim flip of a fish on an uptight string it’s prose, long and simple and almost dull and justified by the lines of vertical sight.  It’s all surface, the prose: all prosody, just the patterns of stress beaten on the tracks of the boats and not the boats themselves; the accents, local and chipper, and not the words.
